GTRC Interview with Retired GPD Officer Jim Ballance

Several Truth and Reconciliation Commissioners and staff had the opportunity to spend nearly three hours last week taking a statement from retired Greensboro Police Officer Jim Ballance, who spent years examining the physical evidence related to the shootings on November 3, 1979. In order to visually represent the physical evidence he examined, Ballance, an artist, created many diagrams that he has shared with the Commission. To the left, you see one example that represents a particular moment in the event at Everett and Carver Streets. Mr. Ballance's attention to detail in these representations has already helped Commissioners and staff to better understand the nuances of the tragedy of November 3, 1979.
