Ubuntu Weekly #34

- an update from the Greensboro Truth and Reconciliation Commission
No. 34 – Oct. 11, 2005

With our Spring 2006 deadline looming, we’ve focused most of our attention on the Commission’s final product. We’re also still reaching out to make new community connections. Toward that end, staff learned much by participating last week in the Greensboro Housing Coalition’s bus tour and the ConvergeSouth blogging conference at N.C. A&T.

-Greensboro’s City Council
primary is Tuesday, Oct. 11. Many candidates have expressed their opinions about the GTRC in a Yes! Weekly questionnaire and at the News and Record’s “Vote 2005” page.

-
Transcribers still needed! We’re thankful to all who are helping us create transcripts of each of our 54 hearing statements. If you’ve got free time, you can be a part of history by listening to the audio files of our hearing online and creating transcripts.

-Volunteer of the Week: Kristi Parker, a recent UNCG graduate who’s volunteering as a part of our research team after providing invaluable help setting up and photo-documenting our last
public hearing. Thanks, Kristi!

-This week’s progress indicator: So far, more than 50 people have signed up to be a part of our
Community Dialogue on Nov. 5.
