Donations Accepted

It goes without saying that my least favorite part of this job as the executive director of the GTRC is fundraising. There is so much exciting work that the five members of the GTRC staff engages in every day--taking statements, engaging community members in conversations, planning public hearings, meeting with summer interns, researching legal documents and newspapers, talking to reporters, etc.--that raising funds easily falls at the bottom of the list. That said, I did feel a healthy sense of accomplishment this afternoon when I successfully set up a paypal account so that it is possible for people to make donations to the Commission on this site (see the sidebar).

Funding for our work through the end of the public hearing cycle (Oct. 1) has already been secured, but we are raising money now to cover our community dialogue (an opportunity for hundreds of Greensboro community members to come together to discuss the public hearings and generate ideas for recommendations in the final report) and our final report publishing, printing and distributing. Any money you donate now will go toward these costs as well as general office expenses like rent and payroll from October 2005 through spring of 2006.

Although I figured out how to set up the paypal account, I still need to understand how we can consider donations accepted there tax-deductible. If you would like to make a tax deductible donation, the easiest plan is still here.

I'll update this site if we figure out another plan in the meantime. Please respond here or to my email if you have any questions about making a donation (monetary or in-kind), the GTRC's funding, or anything else.
